Five veterans of the Afghan war will leave for Slovakia to be prosthesized free of charge within a pilot-project that was launched by the Chisinau City Hall and the Embassy of Slovakia in Moldova on October 8, IPN reports.
In a meeting with war veterans, deputy mayor Nistor Grozavu said the municipality will cover the transportation costs, while the Slovak side will offer free the prostheses and will cover the costs of rehabilitation.
The Slovak Ambassador to Moldova Robert Kirnag said not the veterans chose to take part in that war that disfigured them. It is the duty of the people to help them become active members of society. The diplomat voiced hope that the project will become a nice tradition that will deepen the relations of friendship between the local authorities of Chisinau and the authorities of Slovakia.
Until November 15, there will be designated a persons who will collect the documents needed for the trip and treatment of veterans.
