The period of validity of the exemptions from import duties for Moldovan citizens who return from abroad to live in Moldova was extended for another two years, until October 1, 2025. The Cabinet approved a relevant amendment to a bill, IPN reports.
According to the Customs Service, 90 citizens who returned to live in Moldova the past year benefited from fiscal and customs concessions. Also, during July 1 – September 22, 2023, 2,397 units of transport were cleared by such citizens and excise duties totaling 70.8 million lei were collected.
“This is an important provision for the citizens whose vehicles with foreign license plates stayed in the Republic of Moldova by over 180 days longer. The approved amendments to the bill will reduce the period for checking the payment of the road tax for the last 90 days and will extend the period for providing exemptions from excise duties until October 2025,” said Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Andrei Spînu.
The bill says the amounts collected as vignette (road tax) grew by about 78% on last year. In July-August 2023, the given sum rose by 22.3 million lei compared with the corresponding period last year.
