First tender contests for large renewable energy projects to be announced in November

The first tender contests for investments in large renewable energy projects will be announced this autumn in November, Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Spînu, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development, stated in the ordinary meeting of the Cabinet, IPN reports.

According to the official, there is an increased interest in large projects. Amendments will be designed to the law on the promotion of the use of energy from renewable sources. Later, these will be sent to Parliament for examination.

“As regards other technologies, the interest in these is slightly smaller than in renewable energy technologies and this is primarily due to the fact that the prices of gas and primary resources for producing electrical energy are very high. We are having discussions with several investors and, when the regional context is suitable, such investors will also probably appear in our country,” said Andrei Spînu.

The official noted that they are also discussing the issue of nuclear micro-reactors with Romania, which will be included in the energy strategy. The document will be worked out for a long term, until 2050, and will include all the elements, including energy efficiency, power generation and heating.
