First snow forecast for this weekend

Forecasters said the weather is growing colder and the first snow is expected on December 4-6.

Gennady Roșca, head of the Weather Forecasts Division of the State Hydrometeorological Service, has told IPN that the weather will be influenced by a cyclone heading from the Atlantic Ocean towards Southern Europe.

“There will be snow and sleet. It will primarily rain in southern Moldova and there will be mostly sleet in the northern districts. The level of precipitation will be weak to moderate,” said Gennady Roșca.

He also said that the layer of snow will reach 20 cm in the mountainous parts of Romania. In Moldova, it will not exceed 2 cm and will melt swiftly as daytime temperatures will be above zero.

The temperatures at the start of December are within the norm for this period of the year, but those at the end of November were by 7-8 degrees higher.

After December 3, temperatures will decline to the normal levels for this period. There will be around 0°C at night, while daytime temperatures will oscillate between + 1°C and +6°C.
