The Supervisory Board (SB) of “Teleradio-Moldova” Company met in its first session on Tuesday, January 23. SB appointed the chairman and secretary of the Board, as their appointment aroused debates among the SB members, who had different opinions over the necessity to choose them on the very first day of the session. Mariana Slapac, who was fielded by Anatol Dubrovschi, was appointed as chairwoman of the Supervisory Board, while Anatol Dubrovschi, proposed by Ludmila Barbus, as secretary. Both of them garnered 5 votes out of 9. Several SB members were against the appointment of the chairman and secretary at the first session. As Viorel Cibotaru says, the appointment of the chairman and secretary on the first day of the session is not timely, as the statute, competences and mandates of the chairman and secretary are not known yet. Cibotaru noted that this way the regulations were violated. Igor Munteanu also mentioned that firstly SB needs to have a set of functioning Regulations. Munteanu suggested choosing a temporary chairman at the first session, but his proposal was rejected. After having elected the SB leadership, Munteanu stated that the procedural infringements committed at the first SB session were not propitious for the beginning of its activity. He branded the appointment of the two persons who won 5 out of 9 votes as “a very ephemeral win”. “Overeagerness and intolerance have ruined institutions more stable than SB”, he said. Munteanu opined that it would be proper to get back to debates in order to achieve a majority agreement on the candidates. He also said the sequence of decision making needs to be changed: firstly the Regulations should come and then the appointment of the chairman and secretary, Munteanu said. Veaceslav Ionita said in turn that “if such important things are decided in three minutes, it will be very difficult to work further”, explaining that if the SB members voted in such a way, “it is hardly to imagine how the SB will be able to sketch its policies, to succeed in promoting certain things.”, Ionita concluded. On the other hand, Anatol Dubrovschi stated that he did not think that the law was violated. Dubrovschi said that democracy means both yea and nay votes. The next session of the Supervisory Board of TRM will be held on January 30 and will examine the SB Regulations.
