The first sensory room in the southern part of the country was inaugurated in Leova. Its beneficiaries will be children with severe disabilities from Leova town that will be provided with a wide range of sensory therapies. The sensory room, inaugurated by the NGO “Forța Susținerii”, is part of an EU-funded project, IPN reports.
The sensory room is a space equipped with sensory equipment that allows special education teachers to carry out activities that stimulate the senses of children with severe disabilities. The sensory equipment aims to contribute to the recovery of children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD), sensory integration dysfunctions, developmental delays, neuromotor disorders, language and learning disorders.
Alexandru Gospodinov, head of the Education Directorate of the Leova District Council, said at the opening ceremony that 254 children with special educational needs are currently on records of the Psycho-pedagogical Assistance Service in Leova town and they will now have access to quality support services.
Aurelia Nucă, president of the NGO “Forța susținerii”, said that in addition to the sensory room, a working group for inclusive education and a psychological support group for parents of children with severe disabilities have been set up. Aurelia Nucă added that the opened service provides psycho-pedagogical assistance at home for the out-of-school children and for those who cannot afford to go to Chișinău for consultations or therapeutic sessions.
According to Ana Prasolov, project manager at Soros-Moldova Foundation, the efforts and progress made for the development of innovative social services in Leova town are to be appreciated. Ana Prasolov expressed her hope that the sustainability of this service will be ensured.
The project is implemented by the NGO “Forța Susținerii” with resources provided by the EU within the project “Better social services through a sustainable partnership between civil society and the government”. It is co-financed and implemented by the Soros Moldova Foundation in partnership with the Keystone Moldova Association and the Alliance of NGOs active in the field of Social Protection, Child and Family and the Alliance of Organizations working with disabled people (AOPD). The value of the project is almost 24,000 euros.
