A decision on eventual dismissals following the airport shooting incident will be taken after the first detailed report on the actions taken by all the institutions is presented by this weekend and after the investigation conducted by the Prosecutor General’s Office is over, Prime Minister Dorin Recean said when answering journalists’ questions, IPN reports.

The Premier noted he approves of the actions taken by the law enforcement agencies working at the airport. The border guards identified the attacker as a person who posed a risk to security after he passed through the Istanbul airport that is considered one of the most secure ones and he wasn’t identified as dangerous there.

“The person wasn’t included in any database, but the border police, based on filters and criteria applied together with the SIS, were able to identify this as a potential threat,” said Dorin Recean.

Later, after the first shot was fired, the police patrol intervened without hesitation and in less than two minutes acted to isolate everyone from danger. The individual could have taken people hostage if the police hadn’t intervened on time.

A border guard and an airport security officer were shot dead by the Tajik shooter, a former police officer, after he was refused entry into Moldova. The shooter was wounded in the exchange of gunfire and died in the hospital several days later. His body will be repatriated to Tajikistan. The relatives of the man initiated the necessary procedures with the assistance of the Tajik diaspora in Chisinau.
