First renovated train to be put on track next week

Passengers of the route Chisinau-Ocnita will able to travel with the first train, which was renovated in Romania, starting next week. The ticket fare will rise by about 30%, reports Info-Prim Neo. General Manager of Moldovan Railways Vitalie Struna told the press that the train did not circulate until now, because it had to cover 3,000 km before being put to commercial use. “It has one last thousand kilometers to cover. It should be over by the end of the week. I hope it will start the regular route next week”, mentioned Vitalie Struna. Until now it took 8.5 hours to get from Chisinau to Ocnita by train. The new train will cover the distance in 5.5 hours. Additionally, the diesel consumption went down by about a ton. The passengers will be able to choose between there types of boxcars: 1st class, 2nd class, and social class. The latter will be the cheapest. A social class ticket will cost 55-60 lei, 2nd class tickets will be 90 lei, and 1st class – 115-120 lei. Minister of Transports and Road Infrastructure Anatol Salaru said that five other trains should be have been renovated by the end of this year. “We are currently negotiating with the EBRD and the EIB, who are offering €50 million for rolling stock, for the renovation of locomotives and trains”, the Minister mentioned. Romanian Minister of Transports Ovidiu Silaghi said that the train’s renovation lasted 63 days. The refurbished train will allow for a higher flow of passengers. The renovated train arrived to Moldova at the beginning of June.
