A segment that is 1km long of the runway of the Chisinau International Airport was reconstructed and is already operable, IPN reports.
In a press release, the company that manages the airport “Avia Invest” says the width of the runway was extended from 45 to 60 meters. The works to change and modernize the beacon system of the airstrip on the 1-km segment were also completed and the aircraft will now land safely when visibility is poor.
Afterward, when the whole runway is reconstructed, the Chisinau International Airport will be able to accept and serve all kinds of aircraft, including such large planes as Boeing 777, 767, 787 and Airbus A330, A340, A310. As a result of the performed works, the airport’s operational capacity will increase so that 21 planes could be operated at the airport during an hour. This will considerably increase the interest of more new airlines to work at this airport.
Reconstruction and repair works are held simultaneously in a number of directions and cover both the terminal and the airfield.
