The first project aimed at regionalizing the water supply and sewerage services in the country has been 95% implemented. In a communiqué, the Ministry of Economy says that almost 11,000 branch pipes to the water supply network and over 1,000 branch pipes to the sewerage network have been constructed since the start of the project until the end of 2013, IPN reports.
The project aims to extend the operation area of companies in towns by incorporating the villages situated in the neighborhood. The six water utilities selected to take part in the project are from Floresti, Soroca, Orhei, Hancesti, Leova, and Ceadir-Lunga districts. “It is important not only to develop the water supply infrastructure in the given regions, but also to multiply the given model,” Deputy Prime Minster and Minster of Economy Valeriu Lazar said in a working meeting.
The project is financed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the European Investment Bank. Until now, there were contracted and executed works to the value of €28.6 million. The budget of the project is €30 million.
