First potential independent candidate submits documents to CEC

Chisinau councilor Oleg Cernei filed the required documents to the Central Election Commission (CEC), asking to be registered as an independent candidate in the race for the November 30 parliamentary elections. In a press release, the councilor says that a victory in the November 30 elections will enable him to be an MP of the ordinary people and to be near the people and their needs, IPN reports.

In his election campaign, Oleg Cernei will promote the institution of the uninominal voting system. “The person must be voted, not the party. The MPs must report to the voters, but the dialogue between the party and those who chose it to represent them in Parliament stops the next day after the elections,” he stated.

The councilor called on the election runners to have a decent electoral conduct so as not to make the people do not want to take part in elections. “The mass media have lately disseminated too much negative information. We must also propagate positive messages, intended mainly for those who have wisdom to delegate the best of us to work in Parliament,” said Oleg Cernei.

The municipal councilor said that he collected over 3,000 signatures in favor of his candidacy. A minimum of 2,000 signatures is needed for the person to be registered as an independent. The CEC has seven days to examine the documents submitted by Oleg Cernei. If he is registered, he will be the first independent candidate running in the November 30 legislative elections.
