First new trolleybuses to arrive in Chisinau March 20

The first installment of trolleybuses from Belarus will arrive in Chisinau on March 20 and not in February, as previously announced. The City Hall explained the delay by saying the provider needed more time to assemble the vehicles, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to a press release from the City Hall, Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca is planning to go to Minsk and check the assemblage works. The City Hall will buy 102 new trolleybuses which will be delivered in 4 rounds until May. Each one will have 100 seats. They will consume less energy and will have facilities for helping disabled people enter and exit the vehicle. The new trolleybuses are built and provided by the Belorussian firm Belkommunmash, which won the tender contest. The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the European Investment Bank each offered a €5 million loan to the City Hall to purchase the new trolleybuses. The UE also offered a €3 million grant. Chisinau's electric transport utility RTEC has 260 trolleybuses, 200 of which need to be replaced.
