The Winter Cup of Moldova in memory of Gheorghe Nedbaliuc will be the first national tennis tournament of 2016. The competition, only in singles, will take place on the covered tennis courts of the National Specialized Tennis Sports Schools in Chisinau on January 12-17, IPN reports.

According to the Tennis Federation of Moldova, the participants will compete in the following age categories: U10, U12, U14, U16, U18, and Seniors. The tournament is of major importance for the U12 and U14 age brackets because its represents a pre-selection stage for the teams of the national tennis squad that will represent Moldova at the Winter Cups by Head U12 and at the ITF/TE Development Championship U14. Only players licensed for 2016 can form part of the teams of the national tennis squad.

The draw for the tournament will take place at the head office of the Tennis Federation of Moldova on January 11, at 5pm.
