First national student paper has been launched

The first national newspaper for students “Viata Studenteasca” (“Student Life”) has appeared in Moldova’s newsstands. According to the executive director of the publication, Arcadie Gherasim, the newspaper made by students for students will cover not only the educational process but also the student life outside the classroom. This is the only newspaper that will not display any names of politicians, Arcadie Gherasim said. The first issue depicts the life of students outside the classes. The heroes of the articles are a mother-student, an inventor, a student that sells flowers at night, and an award-winner at an international pop music contest. The authors also addressed issues like domestic partnership, quality and prices of food in student cafeterias, work-and-travel programmes in U.S. In addition, the paper features a grammar column, a humour column and a calendar of plays performed on Chisinau’s stages. Arcadie Gherasim added that the newspaper will kick off in the second issue the information campaign “Say No to Bribery!”, which will be later followed by anti-drugs and anti-trafficking campaigns. Devoted to the 170,000 students studying in Moldova’s vocational schools and universities, the Student Life newspaper will be available weekly at newsstands for 2 lei.
