Twenty tour operators displayed their offers at the first International Tourism Fair in Moldova. The event, organized by the Tourism Promotion Federation, will last until March 8. The Federation’s head Alexandru Filipshi, who is also the director of a travel agency, has told IPN that the event is an exhibition and sale and the visitors can purchase offers starting with 1 euro.
“It is the first event of the kind and it provides direct destinations for the persons who want to have a vacation. We hope that next year the fair will be larger, but we anyway had a good start. We expect that the number of visitors will be the highest on the weekend,” stated Alexandru Filipschi.
The goal of the fair is to promote Moldova and the national tourism sector. The basic destinations are already known: the Soroca Fortress, Orheiul Vechi, and the Cosauti Monastery. “There is a nice complex in the reserve “Padurea Domneasca” too. We also have a reserve of bison. The goal is to bring tourists from abroad and to help our people know their country. If we ask them what tourist attractions we have, the people name only the most known ones, but we also have other nice places,” said the head of the Tourism Promotion Federation.
The travel agency he manages offers tours package intended for groups of 11 persons: 10 persons pay for a two-day excursion through Moldova, with transport and accommodation, while the 11th person pays only 1 euro.
The Romanian county Suceava came to the fair with offers for all the seasons, the closest one being for the Easter holidays. Director of the Suceava National Information and Tourism Promotion Center Danut Burgheaua said their participation in the fair is a sentimental rather than an economic matter. “We wanted to be present here as we encourage such kinds of events. Suceava Country has what to present in the tourism sector. We exhibit general offers and promote the county from all viewpoints,” he said. Near the stand, there is a craftsman from Suceava, who teaches how to paint eggs.
The event is held at the Palace of the Republic.
