During two days, the National Library of the Republic of Moldova hosted the 30th International Scientific Symposium “Bibliophile Values”. This year’s event of the kind had a consistent program with exhibitions, books launches and communications by representatives of institutions of culture. Archbishop Policarp Chițulescu, director of the Bucharest Library “St. Synod” and expert in bibliophily and rare book, was the guest of the event, IPN reports.
The head of the Old and Rare Books Section Veronica Cosovan, who organized the symposium, said the event consisted of two sections – one devoted to the bibliophile values of the cultural heritage and the Ex-libris and book graphics section. Fourteen representatives of institutions of culture took part with communications in these two sections.
An exhibition entitled “Medieval Romanian Witten Culture” was mounted as part of the symposium in cooperation with the National Achieves Agency of Moldova. There was also staged an exhibition centering on the 200th anniversary of the birth of Vasile Alecsandri. This was entitled “And that King of Poetry”. There were exhibited bibliophile books from a private collection.
Also, there was launched the book “Vasile Alecsandri – 200 years of birth”. This is a jubilee book with images and paintings of the family life of Vasile Alecsandri and his family that was edited by writer, university lecturer Cătălin Bordeianu, vice director of the Romanian Cultural Institute in Chisinau.
The 30th International Scientific Symposium “Bibliophile Values” held on June 15 and 16 was entitled “Romanian Language - 500 years of the written Romanian culture” to celebrate the 500th anniversary of the oldest document written in the Romanian language – Letter of Neacșu from Câmpulung (1521). The event was organized by the National Library of the Republic of Moldova in partnership with the League of Librarians of the Republic of Moldova “Alexe Rău”, “Paul Mihail” Bibliophile and Ex-libris Scientific Society of Moldova” and the Calligraphy Association “Dacia”.
