First homes for flood victims to be distributed by end of week
Some 700 commercial entities expressed their willingness to help people in flooded areas build or buy homes, with the first 20 houses being already identified in Briceni district and ready to be donated by the end of the week, Territorial Development Minister Vladimir Baldovici informed the Cabinet at a recent meeting.
In the villages of Criva, Drepcauti and Lipcani damages have been already estimated and it has been established that 222 houses will be built anew.
In other districts estimations are yet to be done, and for this purpose the Ministry of Territorial Development has set up three task forces which are assessing the condition of the flooded structures and are considering the possibility for them to be repaired.
In addition, the Ministry has developed designs for homes with two, three and four rooms, whose costs are estimated at 380,000 lei, 447,000 lei and 485,000 lei, respectively.
First Deputy Premier Igor Dodon, who also chairs the disaster relief commission, says that water levels on the Nistru and Prut are decreasing, yet a number of settlements in the districts of Stefan-Voda and Ungheni are still at risk of being flooded.
In the settlements where water levels have dropped to normal damages are being estimated by special commissions.
PM Zinaida Greceanyi instructed the disaster relief commission to estimate the damages until August 20. Housing must be provided to all by November 10 the latest.
On Tuesday evening, the bank account opened to help food victims held some 3 million lei. More than 1,000 persons dropped off at collection points roughly 30 tonnes of clothing, footwear, underwear and detergents.
