First evergreens on sale are imported ones

Fir trees brought from abroad and also evergreens grown in the private sector and those that are in containers were put on sale. These are sold at prices higher than those announced by “Moldsilva” Agency for the evergreens grown in national nurseries. But traders say the trees imported from other countries are more beautiful and resist longer, while those that are in containers can be planted in the garden after the holidays, IPN reports.

The price of a tree in container, which is about 1.5 meters in height, is approximately 700 lei. The trees brought from Romania cost 350 lei and up. The taller is the tree, the higher is the price, but the price also depends on how nice the leaves are. Sellers say these trees can resist until the middle of January if they are kept far from a heating source.

The evergreens brought from Denmark are more resistant and can remain as nice until the start of February. Their prices are yet higher and range from 650 lei to 1,300 lei and higher. These trees are about 1.8 meters high.

The state-run Agency “Moldsilva” said it will offer over 50,000 evergreens for sale this year and the prices will be by 20% lower than last year, when the nurseries sold the trees for 36 lei/meter. This way, the prices this year should be by 7-8 lei lower.
