The first e-Recycler for electronic and electrical equipment was set up in Europe Square in the central park of Chisinau on July 17. The Chisinau City Hall, in concert with the project’s partners, intends to install such eco-containers in all the districts of Chisinau, IPN reports.

Vasile Efros, head of the Projects Service of the Public Amenities Division, said that this event forms part of the strategy for developing the e-Recycling project and is aimed at sensitizing the people to the need to put the electronic and electrical waste separately.

Vasile Efros noted that a number of awareness-raising activities have been carried out to inform the people about the separate collection of waste. Now they installed the e-Recycler where the population is encouraged to take old and nonfunctional electrical and electronic equipment. “The container shows what kind of objects can be thrown into it – starting with computers, TV sets and electrical appliances, including hair cutting and shaving devices,” he stated.

E-Recycling project manager Vasile Frimu said that by setting up the e-Recycler and by carrying out other activities they aim to create a separate waste collection system, for electronic and electrical waste, for the residents of Chisinau and economic entities working here. Such eco-containers will be placed in other districts of Chisinau too. They will include an indicator that will show when they are full. The collected objects will be taken to recycling plants.

The e-Recycling project was launched by the Chisinau City Hall in partnership with the authorized operator SRL “RecWaste” in May.
