Three deaf-mute children underwent cochlear implant surgery. It was the first operation of the kind in Moldova, performed by a team of Austrian doctors, at the request of Prime Minister Iurie Leanca. The announcement was made by the Premier on a social networking website, IPN reports.
“Being deeply impressed by the story of Nicoleta Huta, a three-year-old hearing-impaired girl, and of other deaf-mute children, I contacted doctors in Austria. The first cochlear implant surgery was successfully perfumed in Moldova today (April 11). The children Nicoleta, Marius and Evelina received free implants and the chance to have a normal life,” said the Premier.
The surgeries were performed by a team of doctors of Professor Wolfgang Gstoettner, of MED-EL Company, and a team of Moldovan doctors.
