First-class treatment for children with cerebral palsy from Transnistrian region

Children with cerebral palsy from the Transnistrian region will be able to undergo treatment in the medical institutions of the Republic of Moldova. The subject was discussed during this year’s first meeting between health care experts from the two sides of the Nistru River, which took place at the Tiraspol Office of the OSCE Mission to Moldova.

According to a press release issued by the Reintegration Policy Office, representatives of the Ministry of Health mentioned the possibility of hospitalizing children from the region in medical institutions and specialized rehabilitation centers in the Republic of Moldova. This means that the approximately 500 children from the Transnistrian region diagnosed with this disease, of whom only 62 have Moldovan documents, will have access to first-class treatment.

Another topic discussed was the importation of medicines by economic operators from the Transnistrian region. The leader of the working group from Chisinau, the general director of the Medicines and Medical Devices Agency, Dragoș Guțu, said that there are no impediments or difficulties in issuing importation permits. From February 2022 until now, the AMDM Medicines Commission has issued 1,956 importation permits, including 551 for unregistered medicines.

Dragoș Guțu added that the Moldovan authorities plan to implement a series of measures in the pharmaceutical sector aimed at protecting the health of the population, while also contributing to the protection of the environment. This includes in particular the collection and destruction of waste of used and unused/expired medicines, including in rural areas.
