First case of AH1N1 flu this season

The first case of AH1N1 flu in the in 2015-2016 season was recorded in Ungheni. According to specialists of the National Public Health Center, the apogee of flu this season is anticipated to be in February.

Contacted by IPN, vice director of the National Public Health Center Constantin Spanu said the case of AH1N1 flu, which is declared seasonal flu, was confirmed by lab tests. The woman elder than 50 from Ungheni district became infected recently. She was isolated and is receiving treatment and feels better.

Constantin Spanu said that a rise in the number of cases of flu is expected. “By our calculations, the number of cases will increase starting with the second half of January. We project the apogee will be after February 20. Then, a downward trend will follow. Things will return to normality in March, if no other strains appear,” he stated.

According to the Center, the epidemiological situation in Moldova is normal. Over the last few weeks, the epidemic ceiling was 101 cases per 100,000 people. The past week, there were recorded over 3,600 cases of acute respiratory infections and more than 200 cases of severe acute respiratory infections.

Specialists recommend taking prophylaxis measures, eating fruit and vegetables that contain vitamin C (lime, currant) and phytoncide products (garlic and onion) and leading a healthy lifestyle, without cigarettes and alcohol.
