First calendar of cultural-touristic events launched

For the first time in the Republic of Moldova, there was launched a centralized schedule of cultural-touristic events that will be organized in 2018 under the brand “Life Tree”. The included events promote folklore and traditions, the wines of Moldova, its music, cuisine and sport, IPN reports.

The calendar includes 28 events, 60% of which will be staged outside Chisinau so as to orient the flow of travellers to rural areas. According to the authors, the existence of such an agenda will increase the visibility of important festivals and will promote Moldova’s image of tourist destination at the local, regional and international levels. The calendar is part of the campaign to promote tourism abroad #Fiioaspetelenostru, which is publicized through www.moldova.travel, social networking sites, local and foreign press and at dedicated exhibitions.

In the launch, USAID Moldova senior program manager Sergiu Botezatu said the tourism sector has big development potential that can ensure the country’s economic growth. A common agenda of the events under the touristic brand “Life Tree” can contribute to the planning of trips made by foreign visitors and locals, who can discover or rediscover the country. Such a practice should become a tradition so that the events of the next years are also included in the calendar.

Andrei Chistol, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research, welcomed the authorities’ initiative to invest in local events. This year the Ministry practically doubled financing for such events. Andrei Chistol voiced hope that the presented agenda will be a guideline for tourists.

Vitalie Zaharia, director general of the Moldova Investment Attraction and Export Promoting Organization (MIEPO), assured that nice events will be staged this year. “We will try to declare this year the year of hospitability and will promote the concept #Fiioaspetelenostru through all platforms,” he stated.

Diana Lazar, vice director of the USAID Moldova Competitiveness Project, said that tourism adds value to the economy. Thirty additional tourists generate a new job in the national economy. The calendar launched today increases the diversity of Moldova’s touristic offer abroad. This will later contribute to enhanced performance indicators in the tourism industry.

Last year Moldova hosted 14 cultural-artistic events of regional importance that attracted 150,000 visitors.
