Firm support for Moldova’s European future

The representatives of the Moldova Partnership Platform are firm in their unwavering support for the democratic, prosperous and European future of the Republic of Moldova and reaffirm their commitment to support the reform and European integration agenda of our country. This is said in a joint statement of the foreign ministers of France, Germany, Romania and the Republic of Moldova, co-chairs of the fifth Ministerial Conference of the Moldova Partnership Platform that took place in Chisinau on Tuesday, IPN reports.

The signatories of the document says that the Moldova Support Platform launched in 2022 was restructured into the Moldova Partnership Platform (MPP). The main objective of this transformation is to move from ad-hoc and emergency support to a long-term partnership aimed at encouraging the sustainable and resilient development of the Republic of Moldova. Thus, the MPP continues to be essential in mobilizing international support for the Republic of Moldova and its citizens.

“The participants of the fifth Ministerial Conference of the Moldova Partnership Platform reaffirmed that the Republic of Moldova fully deserves its place in the European family. We welcome the Republic of Moldova’s dedication to reforms and the commitment to the common values of peace, democracy, the rule of law, respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms. We recognize the important progress made by the country in implementing major reforms, especially in areas relevant to European integration. We agree that a resilient, democratic and prosperous Republic of Moldova will make a valuable contribution to the security and stability of the region and Europe as a whole,” reads the statement.

The signatories appreciate the contribution made by the four working groups, which, according to them, made significant progress in promoting the development of the economy and strategic infrastructure, improving energy efficiency and addressing environmental challenges, advancing the public administration reform and public financial management, and also in strengthening justice, the fight against corruption and security measures.

The discussions focused on current and emerging challenges as the Republic of Moldova continues to face the consequences of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine. The partners welcomed the renewed commitment to provide assistance to support the authorities and citizens of the Republic of Moldova to respond to urgent needs. This points to the enduring commitment of the Republic of Moldova’s partners to help the country build its resilience and highlights the role that the platform has in generating concrete support for the democratic reform process and the development of the Republic of Moldova.

The Republic of Moldova also presented its view on long-term development needs, which aim to strengthen the economy, intensify economic cooperation, modernize infrastructure, increase environmental sustainability and energy security. In this connection, the MPP will continue to play an important role in matching the available assistance with key priorities, thus contributing to the stability and sustainable development of the Republic of Moldova.

“Underlining the importance of regional security, the Platform has played a key role in supporting the Republic of Moldova in managing its humanitarian and security challenges. All partners reaffirmed their unwavering support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova and reiterated their commitment to cooperate closely to strengthen regional stability and to work with the Republic of Moldova to overcome challenges related to border security, organized crime and conflict prevention,” runs the statement.

The fifth Ministerial Conference of the Moldova Partnership Platform involved ministers and other high-ranking officials from 35 states, including the Republic of Moldova, as well as members of 23 international organizations, including international financial institutions.

The next Conference of the MPP will take place in 2025, IPN reports.
