Firm of Filat’s nephew took out loan from BEM by traffic of influence, Ionita

MP Veaceslav Ionita said the firm of the nephew of the leader of the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) Vlad Filat on September 12 took out a loan of 28 million lei from Banca de Economii (BEM). According to Ionita, the loan was obtained by traffic of influence, with the direct involvement of the leader of the PLDM, IPN reports.

The lawmaker told a news conference that the loan was taken out the day he made public the information about the fraudulent schemes used at the BEM. For 20 million lei, the firm “Caravita CO” SRL pledged 1,000 heaters of farmland located in Anenii Noi. The firm will get the other 8 million lei after it supplements the existing pledge.

Veaceslav Ionita noted that for pledging 1,000 hectares of land the bank normally lends at most 10 million lei. “If such schemes were earlier employed through offshore firms, now we see that they are used directly already,” he stated.

The MP said he will ask the Government to pronounce whether the state interests were affected in this case or not. He also intends to notify the National Anticorruption Center so that it determines if it was traffic of influence or not.

Earlier, Veaceslav Ionita said that over 450 million lei was stolen from the BEM with the involvement of the leader of the PLDM. Following these accusations, Vlad Filat said Veaceslav Ionita’s statements are false and he will sue him for slander.
