The manager of a Chisinau-based firm was given four years’ probation for violating the labor rules and not ensuring the protection of a man who died on duty, IPN reports.

According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the accident happened in March 2014. The manager allowed digging a ditch with the depth of about three meters without buttressing the lateral walls for protection. Consequently, one of the company’s employees was crushed under the earth that caved in from the lateral walls of the ditch. This died on the spot.

The 33-year-old defendant didn’t admit his guilt, but the prosecutors proved his blame. He was thus put on probation for a four-year period and was banned from holding administrative posts for three years. He was also obliged to pay 20,000 lei damages to the victim’s successor.

The sentence can be appealed to a higher court.
