More than 6 tonnes of meat with the use-by date expired were found in the storeroom of a private company making sausages. The searches were performed at the company’s production section in Cricova town and at the head office situated in Chisinau, IPN reports.
According to a communiqué of the Chisinau Police Division, the company’s administration could not present documents of origin for the meat. It was established that the raw material was smuggled from the Transnistrian region or was bought from private individuals in the absence of sanitary-veterinary certificates, being kept in insanitary conditions. The police found meat whose use-by date expired over a year ago. It was to be used to make sausages and other meat products.
Serious violations were also identified in the company’s accounting department. There were seized a number of accounting documents, drafts and other documents for additional examinations.
The managers of the company are currently investigated for tax evasion and face a fine of 60,000 to 100,000 lei or up to six years in prison.
