The price of firewood this year is by 3-5% higher. The average selling price is 730.50 lei/m3 without VAT for hardwood species and 416.79 lei/m3 without VAT for softwood species. Contacted by IPN for details, Nicolae Cojocaru, chief forestry engineer at “Moldsilva” Agency, said the final price includes all the performed works. If the firewood is taken to storehouses, its price increases.
It is planned that 541,800 cubic meters of wood will be collected this year and over 430,000 cubic meters of these will be firewood. About 360,000 cubic meters will be hardwood species, while 70,000 cubic meters will be softwood species. The collection process will last for another at least two weeks, stated Nicolae Cojocaru.
He also said that the volume of wood that is to be chopped this year is lower because there are reserves left from last year. The demand is also lower due to the pandemic and the weather conditions.
About 368 million lei was obtained after selling the wood and other non-wood products that remained from last year. The money was used to remunerate the forestry personnel, to regenerate forests and to pay for guard, protection and territorial development works.
