Fires killed 8 in May
Eight persons died and 5 were hospitalized with wounds due to those 78 fires that occurred in Moldova in the first decade of May. Researches have shown that the man causes of fires were careless use of fire, short-circuits, children playing with fire and careless smoking, reports Info-Prim Neo.
According to Firemen and Rescue Service (FRS) during one single day, on May 7, there were registered 11 fires. In Cubolta village, Sangerei raion, the house of a 73 year old woman burnt down and carbon monoxide intoxication led to her death.
Another lethal fire occurred in Rozaman village, Rascani raion where the careless use of fire killed a man. In Sociteni village, Ialoveni, a 47 year old man set his house on fire and died.
On the same day a disastrous fire damaged an apartment block in Balti. The fire broke out at the first floor where a quantity of fuel and other combustible material was stocked. As a result, 3 persons, including two children aged 2 and 6 were intoxicated. Other 18 inhabitants were saved by the Balti FRS staff.
On may 8 a destructive fire occurred in Puhoi village, Ialoveni, with terrible implications for the inhabitants of a house located on 75, Chisinau Street. A gas leakage caused a fire that burned down the house and a 9 year old child was hospitalized with burns of 2nd and 3rd degree.
According to Firemen Service, 1,049 fires occurred in Moldova from the beginning of the year. 96 persons died, including 5 children, and 73 buildings and 160 vehicles were damaged in fires.
