Stoves and out of order smoke evacuation tubes, the overheated stoves and leaving them without supervision, utilization of kerosene and gasoline for lighting the fire, these are the main causes of fires, registered during winter. In October 2006 alone defected stoves provoked 4 fires. At the beginning of the heating season, firemen call for avoiding the situation from the cold period of the last year when in those 1446 fires produced, 218 persons lost their lives, including 16 children. The heating stoves provoked 372 fires, causing damages estimated at MDL 2.66 mln. According to the main specialist of the Firemen and Rescue Direction of the Exceptional Situation Department (DSE), Dumitru Stanila, in order to avoid tragic cases it is necessary to respect the measures of anti incendiary security, verification of stoves and chimneys. Since the beginning of the year, 1817 fires have taken place on the territory of the R. of Moldova, causing material damages estimated at MDL 14 mln. In this period, as result of fires, 51 vehicles, 206 facilities and 64 animals have been damaged. 174 persons died in fires, including 11 children. Firemen and rescuers from DSE saved 529 persons as well as material goods estimated at MDL 107.1.
