Fireman killed in storehouse fire to be awarded posthumously

The firefighter who died as a result of the storehouse fire on Uzinelor St will be awarded posthumously. In an emergency meeting, Prime Minister Pavel Filip instructed to prepare all the documents needed for conferring the highest state award for professionalism and devotion and to also provide financial assistance to the man’s family, IPN reports.

Head of the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service Mihai Harabagiu said the fire started on the fourth floor of a storehouse where there were household goods. The storehouse was rented by a company. The flames extended on an area of over 1,000 square meters. Fifteen fire engines, five of which have ladders, are now at the scene.

The firemen can intervene only with the ladder, not yet from inside, as there is a risk that the ceiling on the fourth floor to the third will collapse. A civilian in a serious state and seven firefighters were taken to the hospital. Five of the firemen were hospitalized.

The Premier requested the law to investigate this case and establish all the circumstances and the cause of fire and of the death of the fireman.
