Firefighters formulate recommendations for preventing fires during holidays

To avoid fire hazards during the winter holidays, the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations warns the people to obey the rules of placing the Christmas tree. The fir tree should be set up on a stable and safe stand and should not touch the ceiling or wall, radiators or electric and heating installations, IPN reports.

The firefighters warn that the defective electric installations can cause fires. To avoid such situations, the lighting of candles on fir trees is not allowed. The electric lights and garlands should be turned off at night.

Fireworks should be purchased only from specialized stores, with instructions and quality certificates. To ensure people’s and homes’ safety, pyrotechnics should be set off only in the open air, in safe places far from homes, parking lots and buildings. Their use by minors is strictly banned. The grownups are urged to strictly monitor the children, primarily during the vacation, not allow them to play with fire. To avoid injury, pyrotechnic articles should not be carried in pockets and should not be held in hands or aimed at persons.

To avoid fires inside homes and carbon monoxide poisonings, the stoves should be checked and used appropriately. The fire in the stove should be put out before going to sleep and electric heating installations should be used prudently.

In situations of risk, including fires, citizens can call the 112 Service.
