A vegetation fire engulfed an industrial area in Cahul town and endangered the storehouses located nearby. The firemen fought to bring the blaze under control for over two hours, IPN reports.
According to the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service, the flames destroyed the dry plants on an area of one hectare, but were prevented from expanding and the storehouses weren’t affected.
The 45 vegetation fires that occurred in Moldova on September 7 and last night affected an area of about 140 hectares.
The firemen warn against throwing smoldering cigarettes randomly and against cleaning the territory by burning vegetal waste as the high temperatures and lack of precipitation increase the risk of fires. The 901 Service must be immediately called when seeing a fire.
The yellow code advisory for exceptional danger of fire in wooded areas and fields, issued by the State Hydrometeorological Service, continues until September 9.
