The dwellers of an apartment building located on Grenoble St in Chisinau were evacuated after a common lumber room from the sixth floor caught fire in the afternoon of April 17.
There were old things in the lumber room, which burned and emitted dense smoke. The fire was localized in less than 5 minutes and its spread was prevented. No apartment was affected. The firefighters evacuated the dwellers of the apartments situated on the fifth, sixth and seventh floor owing to the smoke.
Contacted by phone by IPN, press officer of the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service Diana Turcan said the preliminary investigations showed the fire started from a smoldering cigarette thrown at random. All the circumstances are yet to be determined. The firemen recommend being maximally prudent so as to avoid such cases.
