A heap of dry leaves and branches stored in Buiucani district of Chisinau started to burn last night. Two firefighting vehicles were still on the spot at 9am this morning, IPN reports.

In the ordinary meeting of officials of Chisinau services, Oleg Munteanu, of the Chisinau Emergencies Division, said the fire started after 11pm. Five firefighting vehicles struggled to contain the fire and this was localized at about 3am. No one was hurt.

Head of Buiucani distrust Valeriu Nemerenko said there is yet smoke in the area, but there is no danger to people.

Deputy mayor of Chisinau Nistor Grozavu requested to take emergency measures so as to prevent the spread of fire in this place and in other places in the city where branches were stored.

According to the preliminary data of the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service, the flames covered 3 ha of the area of 5 ha located between the streets Soseaua Balcani and Pietrarilor, where dry leaves and branches were stored. The source of fire is yet to be found out.
