A fire broke out last night in an apartment in Botanica district of the capital city. Firefighters evacuated 15 people, including 4 children, IPN reports.

The fire started in the evening of February 13 in an apartment located on the upper floor of a building on Burebista St. Four firefighting teams struggled to contain the fire that affected a 15-square-meter room.

The rescuers took a 78-year-old woman out of the apartment. She was in a state of shock, but conscious and unhurt. To prevent poisoning by fumes, the firefighters evacuated the residents of the building as the staircase was already filled with dense smoke.

The fire was shortly localized and then fully extinguished, avoiding its extension to the neighboring apartments.

According to the first investigations, the probable cause of the fire was a short circuit in an electrical installation.

A number of 23 people perished in fires in Moldova so far this year.
