Fire destroys over 60 market stalls in Rezina

More than 60 stalls and booths at a goods market in Rezina town were destroyed in a fire on July 13. A short circuit is the preliminarily cause of fire, but other possible causes are also examined. The information was presented in a news conference at the scene by representatives of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations and of the local public administration, IPN reports.

The Inspectorate’s chief Mihail Harabagiu said the call to the 112 Service was made at 4:10pm. Firefighting vehicles from other districts were also dispatched to the scene. The fire was localized in an hour and a half and was fully extinguished shortly afterward. The operation to put out the large-scale fire was hampered by a number of factors. “First of all, the ways of access for the firefighting vehicles were obstructed. Also, a part of the fire hydrants were situated outside the market and this caused inconveniences,” explained Mihail Harabagiu. According to him, no one was hurt and the spread of fire was prevented and this is the most important thing.

Mayor of Rezina Simion Tatarov said the damage sustained by the business entities, regardless of the form of ownership, will be assessed. Approaches will be made to the local and central authorities for identifying possibilities of providing financial assistance to those who were affected.

Representatives of the Experimental Anti-Fire Laboratory noted that thorough examinations are carried out at the scene to find out the cause of fire. A short circuit is one of the versions as the fire started in a market house that was connected to electrical energy. They are yet examining both technical versions and versions related to the human factor and weather conditions.
