Fire claims new life
A young man died poisoned with carbon monoxide in his bed after a lit cigarette caused a fire. Dorina Cruc, spokeswomen for the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service, has told Info-Prim Neo that the tragedy happened in a house in Iurceni village of Nisporeni district on September 15 at about 22.00. The 28-year-old man, who was confined to bed after suffering a fracture of the leg bones, fell asleep with the lit cigarette. The bedclothes and mattress caught fire. The smoke woke up the man's mother, who sought help from the neighbors. The fire was put out, but the man was found dead.
Two persons from the same district received burns after a barrel of pitch exploded. Two neighbors aged 43 and, respectively 33 from Sendreni village wanted to cover the foundation of the house with pitch and put the barrel on fire to liquify the pitch. When they added gasoline, the barrel exploded. The two men suffered burns and were taken to the Nisporeni district hospital.
According to the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service, the careless smoking this year has caused 278 fires, the children's play with the fire – 148 fires, while the short circuits and faulty electrical appliances - 53 fires.
