Fire caused by lit cigarette kills man
A man died from carbon monoxide poisoning in a fire blamed on a lit cigarette.
Dorina Cruc, spokeswoman for the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service, has told Info-Prim Neo that the fire broke out in an annexe in Parlita village of Falesti district. The 57-year-old man fell asleep with a lit cigarette, which set the bedclothes on fire. The man inhaled fumes from the fire and died.
Another man aged 69 was taken to a hospital in Balti municipality with burns of the third degree on 25% of the body. The firefighters saved him from his burning house situated in Balti. The cause of fire is not yet known.
A number of 192 fires happened in Moldova last month. They claimed 39 lives. Most of the fires were caused by lit cigarettes or defective of overheated stoves.
