In the Republic of Moldova, the war veterans are forgotten. They have poultry pensions and the authorities do nothing to make their life easier, stated Fiodor Ghelici, chairman of the public association “Moldova Mea”.
To a news conference given at IPN, Fiodor Ghelici came accompanied by Gheorghe Copiimulti, a veteran of the Romanian Army and of the Soviet Army who was awarded orders and medals. The man is now 99 and does not have a home. He cannot purchase a hearing aid that he needs and medicines on his pension of 847 lei.
“I want to ask the administration of Romania and that of Moldova: Mister politicians, how is it possible for a war veteran, a soldier who carried out orders to live in abject poverty?” asked Fiodor Ghelici.
Gheorghe Copiimulti fought in World War II for the Romanian Army first and then for the Soviet Army. He was conferred multiple medals for courageousness, heroism and devotion. But now he barely copes.
The veteran’s daughter Anisoara Copiimulți said her father was forgotten by the central authorities and is only sometimes remembered by the local authorities. He was two times invited to meetings with veterans staged at the Chisinau City Hall and never to meetings organized by President Igor Dodon. “We do not need flowers. We need esteem and respect for the hard life my father has lived,” said the woman.
Fiodor Ghelici called on the authorities not to neglect the veterans and called upon those who can to support financially Gheorghe Copiimulti.
