The head of the association “Moldova Mea” (“My Moldova”) Fiodor Ghelici advised Acting President and Head of Parliament Mihai Ghimpu to hide the conclusions reached by the commission that studied the totalitarian Communist regime in Moldova in the safe and reach a compromise with the Communists Party (PCRM) so as to overcome the political crisis. In a news conference held at Info-Prim Neo on Thursday, Fiodor Ghelici said no national or international court will back the decision to restrict the PCRM in its work by banning its symbols and the term 'communism'. Fiodor Ghelici said he was sure that Mihai Ghimpu set up the commission for studying the crimes committed by the Communist regime with the aim of removing the PCRM from the political arena. “Ghimpu must be angry with the Stalinist regime, not the Communist one. The Communist ideology has the right to live, as the Liberal one,” Ghelici said. The leader of the association said the verdict of the commission will divide the society according to ethnic criteria. “The European Union will never accept such a measure, while Mihai Ghimpu will never become head of state because he does not respect the Russian-language speakers,” he said. Ghelici considers Mihai Ghimpu is worried that when the leader of the PCRM is changed, all the members who left this party will return. “Ghimpu must make his Liberal Party attractive, not remove a political opponent by dismembering the party,” he said. In the same news conference, Petru Gutul, the leader of the Consumers' Protection Association, said the people want decent living conditions and higher pensions and salaries, not the condemnation of communism. Journalist Alexandr Iudin expressed a similar position. Felix Mihailean, the head of the Association of Armenian Jurists and Doctors, stressed the governors should be responsive to the daily problems faced by the people, saying a head of state should behave like Belarus's Alexander Lukashenko, who often talks to the people.
