The head of the public association “Moldova Mea” Fiodor Ghelici will be under arrest for 30 days. Such a decision was taken by the Rascani District Court on October 13, after the arrest warrant for 72 hours expired. Fiodor Ghelici is investigated for trafficking in human beings, but members of the association and the activist’s relatives deny the accusations, saying it is a political order, IPN reports.
On October 11, prosecution officers of the Border Police Department carried out a series of activities aimed at annihilating an organized criminal group dealing with trafficking in persons and in children.
In a news conference earlier, Fiodor Ghelici anticipated that he will be arrested. He said he was suspected of trafficking in human beings through the agency of the organization he heads and asked President Nicolae Timofti to become involved. Members of the organization and relatives consider that the activist’s arrest was a political order.
