The head of the public association “Moldova mea” Fiodor Ghelici said a volunteer of the association was dispossessed of the money he was collecting in Hancesti town for an old woman by a police officer. The activist said this case is outrageous and he will file a complaint to Minister of the Interior Alexandru Jijdan over it and will also go to court.

In a news conference at IPN, Fiodor Ghelici said he has managed “Moldova mea” for 13 years and in the period responded to the appeals of hundreds of people who needed help. These were mainly solitary persons who are hungry and who do not have electricity or heat at home. The association also helps families with sick children and families affected by fires and runs a social canteen and provides assistance to different medical institutions.

Fiodor Ghelici noted that in time he heard many cases of corruption and other wrongdoings that involved police officers, including from businesspeople, but it is shocking when a police officer claims the donations collected for persons in need. In Hancesti, the policeman approached the volunteer and suggested that he should be given several hundred lei from the donation box. As the volunteer refused, the policeman reproached that he collected the money illegally and his permit was false. He ultimately draw up a report and confiscated the box with 592 lei.

The activist said such cases discredit the image of the whole police system. Immediately after those happenings, he went to the Internal Protection and Anticorruption Service of the Ministry of the Interior, but was told there to write a complaint.

Fiodor Ghelici also said that all the organized events and the donations are strictly monitored and indicated in the association’s reports that are accessible to anyone who wants to check them. Each volunteer who collects money at the local level has a permit, a power of attorney and other necessary documents. The donations are registered on a list with the sum and signature of the donor.
