The head of the public association “Moldova Mea” Fiodor Ghelici is suspected by the police of trafficking in human beings through the agency of the organization he manages. Fiodor Ghelici himself informed about this in a news conference at IPN.
The leader of “Moldova Mea” said the Border Police arrest volunteers of the association and interrogate them and then force them to make discrediting statements against him. “We are the only association that created a database on our volunteers. The police use it to arrest the volunteers,” stated Fiodor Ghelici.
According to him, the Law on Volunteering was approved for the sake of the Europeans and is not respected. Volunteers of “Moldova Mea”, who work mainly in Russia, are afraid to return home as they know that their colleagues are arrested. “I don’t understand why the volunteers are detained. Maybe because they work more in Russia? Do the politicians become involved in this too? It seems that our rulers do not want the people to be helped,” said Ghelici.
He called on President Nicolae Timofti to become involved. Otherwise, they will stage street protests. “We have 88 volunteers. We placed the data of everyone on the website. We did everything in accordance with the law. If the head of state does not provide explanations by October 1, we will protest in front of the Presidential Building, together with all the people in need who ask us to help them,” said Fiodor Ghelici.
The association “Moldova Mea” intends to seek help from international organizations too. “We will inform the foreign partners how Moldova integrates into the EU. When I told one of our partners from Germany that the volunteers are persecuted, he though that I was joking. In Europe, volunteering is promoted and supported,” said the association’s head.
According to the association’s data, the 88 volunteers managed to gather over 90,000 lei during two months for supporting dozens of children with health problems and persons in need.
