“The early parliamentary elections and the presidential elections should be held simultaneously, by this autumn. Until then Parliament is to amend the Constitution so that the people choose the head of state themselves,” the head of the public association “Moldova Mea” Fiodor Ghelici said in a news conference at IPN. He noted that the number of MPs should be reduced to 51 and no lawmaker of the current legislature should form part of the new composition of Parliament following early elections.
Fiodor Ghelici said the members of “Moldova Mea” suggest to the MPs to start to examine the most important issue – the amendment of the Constitution – at the very first sitting of the spring session so that the head of state is chosen by direct vote. “The current Parliament can do now this change without a referendum so as to ease tensions in society,” he stated.
The activist noted that he will send a letter to the Prime Minister, by which he will propose that a Public Council consisting of 45 employees should be set up under the Premier within ten days. “The Public Council should include the following commissions: the commission on economic matters; the commission on social problems; the commission on the justice sector reform, and the commission on the financial control of budget costs,” stated Fiodor Ghelici, adding that now the Government must show the whole society that it is ready to have a dialogue with civil society.
At to the country’s economy, Fiodor Ghelici said that this sector should be reanimated as soon as possible. “We are ready to form a group of specialists and to offer assistance to the current government. We should offer the Government the chance to remedy the situation. We urge society to become involved in the process of stopping the destruction,” he stated.
According to him, the representatives of “Moldova Mea” call on the people not to take to the streets, but to take a step backward to offer Parliament the possibility of realizing the trends so as to peacefully solve the problems. Fiodor Ghelici said that if the current government does not show that it is ready to accept the association’s proposals and to cooperative with civil society by May 1, the situation in Moldova could be more difficult than in Ukraine. “We will join the protesters and will seize power by force,” said the association’s head.
Fiodor Ghelici called on the political class to react to the submitted proposals and to start to peacefully resolve the political and economic crisis in Moldova.
