Moldovan citizens are wronged outside the country. They are discriminated against, become victims of corruption schemes and are deprived of the right to a fair trial. It is the statement of the civic activist Fiodor Ghelici.

In a press conference at IPN, Fiodor Ghelici reported the case of a woman sentenced in the Russian Federation to three years in prison for swindling. The activist claims that the woman is innocent and that there is conclusive evidence in this respect.

The woman went to Russia, along with her partner, to work on a construction site. She was accused of selling fake jewellery to an elderly man. Fiodor Ghelici says that the audio recording of a victim's lawyer's talk shows that the one who sold his jewels is actually another person and that the old man has accepted to make any depositions only to be compensated.

The woman's partner reported that he was called by a police officer who asked about his location, on the pretext that he was involved in a traffic accident which required investigation. The next day the police came to the couple's place and arrested the woman without providing any reason.

The daughter of the convicted woman, Vera Daicu, went to Kursk to see her mother, but the investigator told her that the visits would be allowed only when the defendant acknowledges her guilt.

In July 2018, the woman was sentenced to three years in prison. At the request of the lawyers, it was decided that the penalty be calculated from the time of the detention in November 2017.

The woman's relatives say they have addressed the president for help, but he replied that he did not fall within his remit.

Fiodor Ghelici undertook to make a claim to the Supreme Court of Russia, to which he will attach evidence that demonstrates the woman's innocence. The activist also reported other cases when Moldovans were asked for money to terminate criminal files.
