Fiodor Ghelici makes public apologies to homosexuals

Activist Fiodor Ghelici apologized publicity to the homosexuals from Moldova. In a news conference at IPN, he said that he complies thus with a court decision by which he was obliged to pay by 100 lei damages to three representatives of the LGBT community.

Fiodor Ghelici noted that two years ago he stated his opinion about the sexual minorities of Moldova in a TV program. Though he didn’t incite hatred and didn’t threaten the sexual minorities, his statements were qualified as such and he was sued.

Fiodor Ghelici said that his statements that the homosexuals must be sent to the bottom of the sea or to Siberia were in fact jokes and didn’t represent a threat.

He added that he is not against the Law on Gender Equality, but the members of the LGBT community must respect the majority and behave decently in public, and keep their intimacies behind closed doors.

According to the activist, he continues to believe that Moldova has traditional values that must be respected and promoted. Fiodor Ghelici supports the European integration, but considers that not all the European values must be taken home, to Moldova. Though Moldova is heading for the EU, it must not accept values that run counter to its traditional values.

Fiodor Ghelici thinks that if more persons in Moldova showed initiative and plead against demonstrations by the LGBT community, the representatives of this community would give up staging different parades.
