The Republic of Moldova is threatened by the establishment of an authoritarian regime. The situation in the country is not better than during the Communist rule. Moreover, it reminds of the Soviet period, the head of the Association “Moldova Mea” (“My Moldova”) Fiodor Ghelici said in a news conference, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. “Whit’s happening now in Moldova is similar to year 1937 of the Soviet period. The steps taken by the authorities are even worse than Communists’ actions. The press is oppressed and is no longer free. I think the people have the right to watch on TV whatever they like. If they don’t like something and consider they have been manipulated or lied to, they can go to court. Not those who are in power should decide which cannels can broadcast and which one should be closed,” Fiodor Ghelici said, referring to the withdrawal of the license of the TV channel NIT. He mentioned several incidents that, according to him, show that the authorities permit themselves too much. “The first sign was when armed border guards entered a bus with persons coming from abroad. The people should have been checked calmly, without guns and psychological pressure. The second sign was when the police entered the church during a service and looked for brochures containing information against the adoption of the Antidiscrimination Law,” said the head of “Moldova Mea”. According to a poll conducted by the association, the country’s population is against the authorities confiscating brochures with information against the Antidiscrimination Law. Igor Caldare, a member of “Moldova Mea”, stated that all the respondents said they are against passing this law. Fiodor Ghelici said the authorities changed suddenly their attitude after the election of the head of state. “The people ask themselves where the President is. It seems that the country is ruled by Vlad Filat. Earlier, the journalists could put all kinds of questions, but now Filat answers them selectively. I wonder what the EU is financing now. Democracy?” he asked. He also referred to the April 7, 2009 events, saying he has details to reveal and wants to be questioned by the prosecutors.
