Fines for those who call 112 unjustifiably

The persons who unreasonably call the emergency services risk fines of 650 to 1,500 lei or 40 to 60 hours of community service, IPN reports.

According to the National Common Emergency Phone Service112, during five days of the launch the Service recorded over 20,800 calls made from all over the country. More than 14,100 calls or almost 68% of these were false. The fake calls make the dispatchers lose time and the emergency vehicles can be thus sent with delay.

The Service 112 became active on March 29. The number can be called round-the-clock and free from any landline or mobile phone and can also process text messages. The emergency numbers 901, 902 and 903 will be used in parallel by the end of June. Form July, all the calls will be redirected to 112.
