As many as 231,900 road traffic contraventions were recorded last year, a decline of slightly over 12% on 2018. Fines were imposed in most of the cases. These totaled 220,300 lei. Also, there were issued about 1,900 warnings, IPN reports.
According to the National Bureau of Statistics, 325 cases of deprivation of rights were logged last year. In over 200 cases, the offenders were given community work. Contraventional arrest was applied in another 200 cases.
Speeding was one of the most frequent violations (126,800 cases), followed by the non-observance of road signs and non-giving of way.
The largest number of penalties, accompanied by deprivation of rights, were imposed for driving under the influence of alcohol and for allowing a person under the influence of alcohol or other substances to drive the own car.
